Evasive won the Horris Hill Stakes (G3) over 7 furlongs at Newbury as a juvenile, and immediately became one of the favourites for the 2,000 Guineas Stakes (G1) . Unfortunately, a foot problem in the spring prevented him for having a prep race for the Newmarket classic. He went straight to the Guineas and ran a big race to finish sixth, just over four lengths behind Sea The Stars, who went on to win the Derby Stakes, Eclipse Stakes, Juddmonte International Stakes, Irish Champion Stakes, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and was the undisputed Horse of The Year.
Evasive next ran in the St. James's Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot, where he finished fourth behind Mastercracftsman, Delegator and Lord Shanakill. Intense Focus was fifth, in what was a high class renewal of the prestigious mile contest.
The 2,000 Guineas won by Sea The Stars was exceptionally strong - as many as eight of the runners became stallions.
